Provides SMS Donation Service for Presidential Elections
For the first time in 2004 Indonesians
are able to use their democratic rights to directly elect their
president. The first round of election for the 2004-2009 presidential
term was held in July with a run-off planned for September.
 |
Many Indonesians greeted the opportunity
to vote directly for their president and vice-president
with great enthusiasm and have demanded to be involved
in the process in many ways. In conjunction with political
parties contesting the July poll and with mobile operators
Telkomsel, Satelindo, IM3, Excelcom and Mobile-8, 1rstWAP
added its support to this process by enabling members
of the public to give donations to their chosen party
and candidates by SMS.
|
The service works by subscribers sending SMS to premium rate
numbers like 4949. Between Rp 5,000 and Rp 11,000 is deducted
from their prepaid credits or added to their bill and funds are passed
on to the political party. In this process 1rstWAP acts as a
donation aggregator to collect the donation requests and distribute
information to the relevant parties and carry out consolidation.
The 1rstWAP service also enables the candidates
to see live statistics of incoming donations, including text
messages from supporters, displayed on a web site provided
by 1rstWAP.
