1rstWAP: Josef Fuchs Leads The Way

After almost two decades in the region, Josef Fuchs, a native Austrian Tiroler based in Jakarta, is highly regarded in the Asian telecom industry. He is a director of and chief engineering contributor to 1rstWAP, the leading developer of a unique, global system linking the mobile and internet universes to provide a wide range of valuable and useful services.

I-M-MEDIA is 1rstWAP’s comprehensive communication platform, which opens up Instant and Mobile Messaging to all Internet and mobile users, regardless of their ISP, PC or mobile phone type – making it truly globally accessible. The system also enables pushed alerts and various user-pulled services, giving the platform wide applications - from a personal method of keeping in touch with friends and workmates in the office or across the world, through to enhanced marketing and other services in many different industries and regions. All the while, the system protects users’ privacy and is extensively brandable.

Josef has played a leading role in 1rstWAP’s on-going market roll-out of its unique services. Important recent developments include:

Telecom Operator Agreements

Agreements to deploy 1rstWAP’s branded communication platform have been reached with MobilTel in Bulgaria, Telkomsel in Indonesia and Mobilkom in Liechtenstein. Telkomsel already has 30,000 users of the 1rstWAP services.

Key applications for these telecom operators are: instant messaging, content provisioning, pushed news alerts, logo and ring tone downloads, email notification, location based services and multimedia messaging. The ability for WAP and GPRS users to conduct mobile chatting, together with the bulk of the GSM users who do so by SMS, is seen as having very strong potential, both immediately, and in the future.

Cooperation with mobile operators in China, Italy, Russia and Serbia is being established. Agreements with operators in these markets help 1rstWAP to further improve the speed of its service within those markets and ensure an ever more secure and robust network covering the globe with increasing efficiency.

OEM Agreement With Logica

Leading telecom supplier Logica, with annual turnover exceeding US$1.6bn, has signed an agreement with 1rstWAP to OEM its portfolio of mobile and instant messaging applications. This will help Logica maintain its leadership in numerous areas, key of which are multimedia messaging (MMS) and payment platforms. Both MMS and payment solutions are highly important parts of Logica’s offering to its 160 telecom operator customers.

Mobile Dating

1rstWAP’s mobile dating services have also received intense interest from various telecom operators and companies in a range of industries. Mobile dating services are seen as extremely valuable for many reasons, including their ability to increase customer loyalty and service stickiness, the opportunities they provide for permission marketing to a verifiable audience and importantly for telecom operators, the ability to significantly increase traffic.

The 1rstWAP system enables mobile dating to take place in full privacy, which makes it much safer both for users of the service, and for service operators. The system enables users to increase their levels of interaction before making their first direct contact with a prospective partner or friend. This, together with meaningful interest selections and a 24 hour window before meetings take place, reduce the random and uncertain aspects of traditional internet dating, thereby making the service not only much more convenient, but also much more valuable and worthwhile to participants.

Possibilities To Emulate Japanese Success

NTT DoCoMo’s I-Mode service in Japan has been spectacularly successful. Not only does the service have millions of users, but importantly, it boasts over 44,000 content providers. Josef recently met with Mr Natsuno, the well-known visionary executive at DoCoMo, who showed keen interest in the IrstWAP concept. 1rstWAP is the only service beside DoCoMo’s I-Mode in Japan to offer wide multi-branding opportunities. 1rstWAP’s “umbrella concept” of multiple branding enables an operator to allow content providers to use their own branding within the platform as well, thus providing the key to rich and committed content provider input.

Embassy Safety Network

Charged with protecting diplomats, staff and citizens abroad, there has been strong interest from embassies and government departments around the world in a 1rstWAP application which enables alerts and emergency news to be pushed to staff and citizens’ mobile phones. The system works in over 130 countries and across more than 400 mobile networks, and even makes it possible to determine whether the message was successfully received by the intended recipient – a very important capability in environments where people may face life-endangering threats and crises.

Car Tracking

In cooperation with BMW, 1rstWAP has developed and tested a system which enables the tracking of vehicles using mobile phone technology. Useful in situations in which people need to know how far away a vehicle is, if they are lost and need their bearings, or when a car is stolen, users operate this system very simply, using their regular mobile phone. This makes the system very convenient, easy to use and gives them, and their vehicle, freedom of mobility.
